Visit the Ulster American Folk Park

A folklore park, which dates back to the time of Irish emigration.

Immerse yourself in the history of the brave Irish emigrants who crossed the Atlantic to America! The Ulster American Folk Park, offers an immersive experience, where the park recreates life during the 19th century, when the Irish, suffering from the Great Irish Famine (1845-1848), were forced to leave their country to travel to the United States.

Thus, the Park offers you the opportunity to survey a series of 30 buildings: some from different eras, others reconstructed more recently. Stroll through a lively street, entirely reconstructed with 19th century features. Extras walk around in period costume, and the houses are entirely open to visitors!

They are furnished as in the 1800s: costumed animators pretend to live there, and don’t hesitate to interact with visitors, which brings an appreciable touch of authenticity.

Push open the doors of the park’s old cottages, enter the traditional farms… Play the game and be part of family life in the thatched cottages, cook with park animators in the houses, take classes at school, discover traditional crafts and taste traditional specialties!

The park also offers the opportunity to board a real emigrant boat. It’s an opportunity to put yourself in the shoes of the Irish fleeing Ireland. You can then discover the cramped quarters where hundreds of people crammed during the twelve weeks of their Atlantic crossing.

The visit then ends with a glimpse into the life of the emigrants once they arrive in the USA. We discover their ingenious ideas for starting life on the spot. Their relationship with their loved ones in Ireland…

In short: the museum offers a complete overview of Irish emigration. The park is fascinating and suitable for the whole family!
