If you are sporty, excellent at climbing and mountaineering and you are looking for beautiful places, then Tormore Island is for you! Situated on the Slievetooey side of Donegal, Tormore Island is a sort of huge rocky outcrop at the end of the coastline. It overlooks the bay and the ocean, and offers a breathtaking sight! An exceptional panorama of the Irish open spaces and the sea, between rocky giants, beach and sea.
Make no mistake: Tormore Island is far from being accessible to all. Its steep passages, rolling stones and peaks make it an extremely dangerous place.
It is before all the landmark for mountaineers and professional climbers in search of adrenaline and thrills. The place is clearly to be avoided if you are with your family, and you don’t have any professional climbing experience (It’s a bit frustrating, but safety is also a guarantee of a good trip)
It must be said that the highest rock on Tormore Island is 150 metres above sea level. Enough to make you dizzy! In fact, it is so high that you can even clearly distinguish it from the road going from Dungloe to Kincaslough located more than 40 km north of Tormore Island!
On the access side, Tormore Island is rather hard to reach. Although approachable for experienced climbers, you can only admire it from a distance. Don’t be too frustrated: the place is really dangerous and it would be foolish to take unnecessary risks. A magnificent spot nevertheless, very confidential because of its geographical location and the conditions required to access it.
