The St Molaise Abbey is a former religious complex. There is among others an old Irish abbey, located on the island of Inishmurray in County Sligo in Ireland. Rather rich in architectural vestiges, its visit is worth the detour and will allow you to discover the ecclesiastical history of the island… To do if only to experience the charm of the place!

A site strewn with ruined buildings

The visit of the monastery of St Molaise is accessible to visitors. You will discover a fence wall more than 3 meters thick reaching up to 4.6 meters high! Impressive dimensions, which let you imagine the size of the site! Once past the fence, you’ll be spoilt for choice! Indeed the site has many buildings in ruins including :

  • a borie
  • of enclosures
  • a cemetery
  • stones with Pictish influences
