A 12th century oratory

The Monastery of Saint Lua still remains to this day. Built between 1000 and 1150 A.D., it was moved to the site of Killaloe around 1920 following the development of a hydroelectric power station.

It is in a quite remarkable state, and still has walls and roof. Although closed to visitors, you can admire the exterior architecture, and enjoy the small information panel located just in front of it. It presents the history of the monastery, its move…etc. A very beautiful site, with more than authentic charm!
