Sky Road is a 10 km long circuit, divided into 3 distinct parts, namely: the Beach Road, the Low Road, and the Sky Road. Over the kilometers, you will gain altitude, winding along winding roads, which will finally overlook a panorama without equal and wild as you wish.
You will have the opportunity to start your visit from Clifden, to admire its magnificent bay. The road then climbs the mountain heights, and winds through the heather to give a breathtaking view of the ocean, Inishbofin, and other small islands punctuating the horizon here and there.
Whatever the weather, in bright sunshine or overcast or rainy, you will be simply charmed by the amazing colours and contrasts between sky, land and ocean.
Don’t be surprised if you come across a few sheep grazing peacefully in the surrounding fields: on Sky Road, most of the sheep move around in the strictest freedom! So watch your driving… It would be annoying to hit one of its wool animals!
Take care of the road: it is narrow in places, and does not always allow 2 cars to pass at the same time in both directions. The road meanders in a twisty curve for most of the trip, making you discover the terrible reputation of Irish roads in all its aspects. So be careful, and avoid excessively high speeds.
If you are on foot, prefer the Sky Road Lower (small loop from Beach Road in Clifden). The trails are suitable and the views are breathtaking!
