Silent Valley is a beautiful valley in Ireland, located in the Mourne Mountains in County Down. Renowned for its exceptional and 100% wilderness landscapes, the valley also has one of the largest water reservoirs in the region. A reservoir located in a preserved setting with a rather nice panoramic view!
Surrounded by magnificent wild mountains, Silent Valley is situated in a setting of exceptional natural beauty. A few houses live in a secluded area, bordering forests and lakes, in a haven of peace and tranquility. A place that Irish people particularly appreciate!
Every year, more than 50,000 people come here to enjoy the quietness of the valley and its particularly rich flora and fauna.
Beyond these beauties, Silent Valley is home to a water reservoir that supplies County Down, the surrounding counties and the city of Belfast.
It is owned and managed by Northern Ireland Water, and was built between 1923 and 1933 by more than a thousand men, nine of whom died during construction.
A winding road runs along the entire reservoir, offering breathtaking views! Of course, this road is not free, but it will delight your eyes and your camera!
The reservoir is equipped with a superb dam, on which you can admire an unequalled view of the valley. It must be said that the reservoir has been built with pure respect for its environment, and blends perfectly into the wild landscapes of the valley!
