The Inisheer Lighthouse is a lighthouse on Inisheer Island. Easy to recognize with its black and white horizontal stripes, it is still in operation and guides approaching boats every day. A lighthouse to be seen up close!
The Inisheer lighthouse has existed since the 19th century and has recently been renovated to be automated. The lighthouse is magnificent and cannot be visited from the inside, but its approach is worth the detour.
You will have all the leisure to admire it from the outside, and to approach it closely to admire its architecture as well as its lens. At night, you will see it whirl around to light up the boats approaching the Aran Islands: a really great experience!
The walls of the lighthouse are particularly thick, reaching up to 1 meter thick. Very solid, it is cut to face the big sea, and has below the old houses of the lighthouse keepers of the beginning of the century.
The location of the Inisheer lighthouse also makes it a great place to enjoy beautiful views. On the program, iodized wind, swell and big waves! A spectacular view that will remind you of Inisheer’s insular character! Moreover, the locals like to rest here for a little fishing. It is indeed possible to cast your line there, while enjoying the calm and the 100% wild environment of the island!
