The Model. Home of The Niland Collection is an art museum in the town of Sligo. Considered one of the leading centres for contemporary art in Ireland, it offers a vast collection of 20th century works as well as fascinating temporary exhibitions.
The Model. Home of The Niland Collection is more than just a museum: it houses not only several exhibition spaces within its walls, but also a cinema, a concert hall and 8 artists’ studios.
The museum is housed in a former school in Sligo, and features the Niland Collection, an impressive permanent collection of 300 works by renowned artists such as Paul Henry, Louis le Brocquy, George Russell and Jack Butler Yeats (the brother of the writer William Butler Yeats, both from Sligo). But the museum also offers temporary exhibitions, whether artistic or musical.
Here, everything is a pretext for cultural openness, and you will come across works by greats such as Andy Warhol, you will be able to listen to classical and contemporary musicians, or even push open the door of his cinema to attend the screening of an auteur film. In short, here art is complete and eclectic. See if you are passionate about cultural expression in all its forms!
