Visit the Merlin Woods Park

An exceptional forest and castle

The forest of Merlin Woods Park has the particularity of having always been maintained by man. More than 164 hectares of trees were planted here in the 20th century, and the Irish State carefully monitors the regular condition of the woods.

Very pleasant, the forest is open to walkers, and allows you to enjoy nature, while being only a stone’s throw from Galway. By following marked trails, you will be able to admire magnificent specimens of Norwegian pines, hazel trees, beeches, sycamores, or incredible oaks.

On the wildlife side, red squirrels often play in the trees, but you may also come across some foxes, badgers, and even deer. As for the birds, they will offer you a real private concert!

You will also come across Doughiska Castle, a 16th century castle with the appearance of a square tower, which was once the property of the Lynch family. The tower has an incredible charm with its ruins, and its location in the middle of the forest of Merlin Woods Park!
