Killary Harbor is a fjord located in County Galway at the north of Clifden. Only fjord in Ireland, Killary Harbor has impressive dimensions: it is 16km long and 45m wide. The beauty of the landscape is fascinating: the clear water highly contrasts with the black and peeled mountains of Galway.
In the middle of nowhere, the Leenane is a small and isolated village in this immense landscape made of land and water. Surrounded by the Patry Mountains, the Maumturk Mountains and the Mweelrea Moutains, the village is located at the bottom of the fjord.
If you want to stop there, enjoy the presence of few Pubs, but also shops, a post office, and a few residential houses (which are present in very small numbers).
The village, by its small size and its isolated geographical location, makes it a place where you will find few distractions … except, of course, the contemplation of the landscape.
However, it is very pleasant to spend a quiet moment in one of their Pubs : people are very warm (as everywhere in Ireland). And a little calm instant can only bring some good vibes !
This hiking circuit allows you to walk along the fjord through marked paths, by offering breathtaking views of the bay of Killary Harbor. With a duration of 4 hours and a medium level of difficulty, the ride is pleasant. Do not forget your camera : views are breathtaking and worthy of cinema landscape !
The company Killary Cruises offers circuits of around 1 hour and 20 minutes, to explore the fjord by sea… Needless to say, the ride is pleasant, and offers you an incredible view of the bay and its imposing mountains… Bring a good sweater with you : it blows a lot, and especially at sea…
Follow the R335 in direction of Delphi: you will then come across a succession of waterfalls which are worth a detour.
