The Hilden Brewery is undoubtedly the oldest micro-brewery in Ireland! Created at the beginning of the 19th century, this brewery produces quality beers, without commercial overbidding or advertising operations… Here, their beers are known exclusively by word of mouth, as well as for their exemplary quality! And it works!
If you’re fed up with beers from the country’s big beasts, then a visit to the Hilden Brewery is well worth the trip! You can take a complete tour of the micro-brewery, learn about the different brewing techniques of Irish beer, and discover what’s behind the main control labels.
The people there are very nice and welcoming, and will even offer you to taste some of their beers! Possibility to buy some on the spot to bring back some souvenirs.
On the taste side, their beers are remarkable, with subtle tastes, often caramelized, and playing on a clever balance of bitterness.
For the moment, Hilden Brewery beers are difficult to find in the shops. For a taste, visit the brewery, or Molly’s Yard, a restaurant in Belfast, or the Hillside Irish Pub in Hillsborough. In moderation as always.
