No, you’re not dreaming: Enniskillen castle is a North Irish castle that looks like a children’s fairytale castle! A magical and authentic place, which is one of the places to visit, if you make a jump on the side of the county of Fermanagh!
A small architectural marvel, the Enniskillen Castle is a castle located in the heart of the village of the same name.
Built in the 15th century, it is the pride of its inhabitants and has a very assertive Anglo-Norman style, with its 2 symmetrical towers overlooking the local river.
One of them, called the “Watergate”, once at its top allows a breathtaking view of the east of the town, and overlooks the banks of Enniskillen. An ideal angle at the time, to keep an eye on the surroundings!
You will be able to climb up there and contemplate the view through numerous loopholes and windows.
The visit is rather nice: the castle itself has been converted into 2 separate museums. One is devoted to regional archaeology and presents through exhibitions the history of the county of Fermanagh and the archaeological discoveries made … The other museum is dedicated to the military past of the town of Enniskillen.
In short, a place not to be missed if you pass by!
