Clew Bay is a gigantic oceanic bay with more than 365 islands. If the place is magnificent, it is above all for the incredible number of islands present in this bay. The Irish even like to say that there is an island for every day of the year!

Visit Clew Bay

A Bay to visit by car or on foot!

For those who have a rental car, it is possible to drive along the bay on the N59 road, and then take the small roads leading to the villages of Clew Bay.

You will discover a magical coastal landscape! On the program, small narrow roads, crossing here and there villages with colorful houses, built along large magnificent beaches.

Not to mention of course the fabulous panorama overlooking the ocean and its hundreds of islands!

If you wish to discover the bay by sea, you should know that it is possible to rent a boat provided you have a license. If you don’t have the possibility, there are also shuttles that go back and forth to the major islands of the bay.

You will have the opportunity to land on Clare Island, one of the most important islands in Clew Bay. Located less than 6km from the coast, Clare Island has 2 big mountains, Knockmore (463 meters high) and Knocknaveen (220 meters high). You can not only organize a small hike, but also visit the small village of 180 inhabitants who live on the island.

Don’t miss the superb view of Croagh Patrick, the sacred mountain where Saint Patrick made his pilgrimage. It stands majestically on the coast of Clew Bay, and is visible from the islands of the bay.
