The Castle Ward is a North Irish castle located in County Down. It was built in the 18th century near the river Strangford Lough, and was used, among other things, for some scenes in the “Game of Thrones” series .
Ward’s Castle is a fortified Victorian-style tower house set in the heart of a wooded park of over 332 hectares.
It has the advantage of hosting within its walls a manor house, a sawmill, a corn mill, a theatre, a small laundry, and beautifully wooded gardens in which you can walk.
The place is friendly, quiet and authentic, and currently attracts quite a few fans of the Game of Thrones series. The castle was indeed used as a filming location for some scenes of the series, and has become a must for the tele-phages!
In short, a nice little visit, which should plunge you into the heart of the 18th century! Icing on the cake: the castle also has a small souvenir shop, which should pique your curiosity!
