This is the newest tourist attraction in County Wicklow! Opening in July 2022, Beyond the trees Avondale offers a unique experience in the Avondale Forest Park! The site offers you an elevated walk in the trees, more than 38 meters above the ground! The opportunity to dominate the forest and admire the tree tops and the Wicklow countryside!

An adventure perched above the trees!

Entitled “Beyond the trees Avondale”, the attraction cost nearly 19 million euros! It must be said that the installation has what to impress!

It is a kind of wooden walkway (called “Treetop Walk”), entirely made of Douglas fir. Its dimensions are impressive: it culminates at almost 40 meters of altitude, and is nearly 700 meters wide!

It is wheelchair accessible and offers a breathtaking view of the county, the Avondale House, the Avondale Arboretum and the Avonmore River which flows below. You’ll also see the beautiful Great Ride Trail: a sure bet for an unforgettable nature hike!

In addition to incredible views, the walk offers information points and small crossing challenges for the more adventurous.

The “Viewing Tower” and the slide

But that’s not all! The attraction also has a 12-story observation tower, which is also fully wheelchair accessible. It’s the first of its kind in Ireland! It features an observation deck at the top and a 90-meter spiral slide that spins around the tower for those who want a thrill ride down!

The slide itself is the highest in Ireland, offering visitors a thrilling final experience.

Beyond the trees Avondale hiking trails

In addition, there are 3 trails scattered throughout the forest park. The opportunity to walk in nature, enjoy the forest, and discover the fauna and flora of Wickow!

Here is an overview of the 3 trails:

• The River Walk: at 5.2 km, this is the longest trail available in the park. Visitors can expect steep descents and a walk along the river.
• Centennial Trail: This 2.6 km loop trail offers visitors a glimpse of the varied flora.
• Railroad: This 2.1 km walk begins at the Rathdrum train station and ends at Avondale House.

Beyond the trees Avondale has a visitor center, picnic areas, children’s play areas, and a café (the Seed Café)

Ideal transportation services to get there!

Avondale Forest Park is located 64 km from Dublin city center.

Visitors to Dublin can take the Rosslare Europort Service train which takes visitors to Rathdrum, a 30 minute walk from the park.

There is also a daily local bus service (No. 133L) that runs from Wicklow City to Rathdrum.

Finally, a 400-space parking lot is available for parking near Beyond the trees Avondale. It costs 5€ per day. Six charging stations are also available for electric vehicles.
