The County of Laois, is a region located in the province of Leinster. Considered one of the smallest counties in Ireland, it was created in 1556 by Queen Mary I of England as Queen’s County. The name Laois was not given to the county until after the War of Independence (1919-1921), to mark the break with England. Although slightly less touristy than other Irish counties, Laois is a predominantly rural area, living from agriculture and livestock. One lives there in peace and quiet, and the region has a charm that is second to none, to be known if you wish to sink into a deep and true Ireland.
