A true wonder of nature, the Burren is one of Ireland’s many geological curiosities. Although the Burren is probably not very attractive in its desert surroundings, it fascinates and yet attracts visitors from all over the world. For lovers of unique oceanic landscapes, you will be served!
The Burren is a desert place with an almost lunar appearance, a gigantic rocky plateau covering more than 1300km². The singularity of the place is such that Oliver Cromwell once described the Burren in his words: “It is a region where there is not enough water to drown a man, not enough wood to hang him, not enough earth to bury him”.
If you decide to go there, expect to find only vast stretches of smooth limestone eroded and cracked by time. All of this is of course bathed in a silence sometimes broken by the incessant coming and going of the waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
