A nourishing nettle soup that warms up!

Generally speaking, Irish nettle soup is a dish in its own right that will satisfy even the hungriest. It is a soup made with potatoes, nettles, leeks and onions. It is mixed in liquid cream and vegetable stock: a real treat!

Note that many local irish pubs and restaurants offer this speciality à la carte. The dish has the advantage of being ultra-economical and tasty!

Recipe for Irish Nettle Soup


  • 3 potatoes
  • 2 handfuls of pre-washed nettle leaves
  • 2 onions
  • 1 leek, minced
  • 800ml vegetable stock
  • 30cl of fresh cream
  • butter
  • salt
  • pepper


  • In a casserole, fry the cut potatoes in butter.
  • Add the leek and onions.
  • Let cook on low heat for 15 minutes. Stop before colouring.
  • Then add the vegetable stock and simmer until the vegetables are completely cooked.
  • Then add the nettles and cook for 5 minutes.
  • All that’s left to do is to mix, add salt, pepper and of course the crème fraîche!
  • Enjoy your meal!
