Michael Fassbender has been a well-known German-Irish actor since the end of 2005. Considered a rising star of the cinema, the young man has notably shone in the film “300” as well as for the film “Hunger”, where he plays Bobby Sands, a symbolic figure of the conflict in Northern Ireland.

Biography of Michael Fassbender

A childhood spent between Germany and Ireland

Michael Fassbender was born on 2 April 1977 in Heidelberg, Germany, to a German father and an Irish mother. In 1979, his parents left Germany for Ireland and moved to Killarney. Michael is then schooled there, and has a peaceful childhood.

As a teenager, Michael discovers comedy and dreams of starting an acting career. At the age of 16, he began taking acting classes, directed by Donie Courtney. The latter trains him, teaches him the rudiments of acting, and invites him to join his troupe of actors.

From his debut to his dazzling success

In the early 2000s, Michael Fassbender managed to make his mark in Hollywood by signing a contract with the “Band of Brothers” series, produced by Tom Hanks. This first experience seems to please him, and reinforces him in the idea that the acting profession is made for him.

He then plays in a small film of poor quality: “The Curse”. But fortunately for Michael Fassbender, the success is for the following year: he shoots in 2007 the film “300”, then “Angel” by François Ozon. The film proved to be a big hit.

But the consecration is in 2008: Fassbender signs for the film “Hunger” directed by Steve McQueen. He plays Bobby Sands, an IRA prisoner who launches a hunger strike movement in the early 1980s. The latter will die after 60 days of fasting…

For this role, Michael Fassbender chose to lose a lot of weight: a concession that earned him praise from critics who appreciated the film and its credibility.

Faced with success, Michael Fassbender is then noticed by Quentin Tarantino, who gives him a role in “Inglorious Basterds” where he plays the role of Archie Hicox. Then comes the film “Fish Tank” by Andrea Arnold, as well as “Jonah Hex” by Jimmy Hayward, in which he gives the line to John Malkovich.
