Dermot Kennedy is an Irish singer and composer. A rising star in recent years, his songs are recognizable by his granular, flayed voice. Artist of the moment on the Dublin scene, he has enjoyed worldwide success and promises a bright future… a little spotlight on this up-and-coming artist!
Dermot Kennedy’s style is difficult to describe. It’s a clever mix of folk, electro and hip-hop inspirations. A beautiful association, between darkness and light, which always makes his songs full of emotion.
Dermot Kennedy made his name playing in the streets of Dublin. He was soon spotted by the Irish singer Glen Hansard, who would allow him to record his first songs and open for him in concert. His first live performances earned him the interest of The Irish Times newspaper and the BBC: all the critics agreed on the talent of the young Dubliner. His initially unnoticed single “After Rain” was a big hit on Spotify.
It was then an opportunity for the singer to reveal himself: he was offered the chance to play 2 concerts, then to record his very first EP, entitled “Doves & Ravens”. He was then 25 years old.
The EP met with success. The British scene is tearing it up and a giant tour is then organized. Since then, the young Irishman has not been stopped. He sings with passion and gives himself to each track, to the great pleasure of the audience.
One thing’s for sure: Dermot Kennedy still has some great things to show us!
