Caitríona Balfe was born on October 4th 1979 in Dublin, Ireland. She grew up in Tydavnet (Co. Monaghan) in a large family (6 brothers and sisters).

Very quickly, the young woman discovered a taste for acting. In 1999, she joined the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama where she took acting classes. Nevertheless, she was quickly spotted by the Assets Model agency in Dublin while participating in a charity auction. She was offered a modeling contract. She was barely 19 years old.

Modeling and acting career

Caitríona Balfe juggles then between her activities of model and actress. She multiplies the courses, first at the Warner Loughlin Studios, then at the Sanford Meisner Center as well as the Judith Weston Studios.

At the same time, the young woman worked for big names in fashion such as Calvin Klein, Levi’s, Dolce & Gabbana, Moschino, Mango, Victoria’s Secret and H&M. She became the muse of Narciso Rodriguez.

She works in modeling for 10 years and then focuses on her career as an actress.

She starts with a film with immediate success: The Devil Wears Prada. She plays a second role rather discreet.

In September 2013, Caitríona Balfe is retained for the series Outlander. It is an immediate hit. The Dublin actress is then rewarded by many awards. This is the beginning of the consecration!

In 2016, she plays the role of Diane Lester in the film Money Monster by Jodie Foster alongside George Clooney and Julia Roberts. It now takes an international order.

In 2019, she plays in “Le Mans 66” to play the role of Mollie Miles, the wife of Ken Miles. She gives the line to Christian Bale and Matt Damon.

In 2020, she turns for Kenneth Branagh for the film “Belfast”, a production that traces the childhood of the director in 1969, in a Northern Ireland torn by conflict.
