Discover Prehistory in Ireland

Irish prehistory as such can only be studied from about 8000 years ago. Before that, due to the Ice Age, sea levels were much lower, which meant that Ireland was attached to England, and England to the continent. The ice gradually receded, and by -6000, Ireland was cut off from England by rising water levels. From Scandinavia, hunting and fishing populations crossed Great Britain towards the Wicklow and Antrim Highlands.
